PGP has 3 suite of the products, for desktop users for corporate users and for gateway. Please find below information on it.

1. PGP Enterprise

It is a desktop stand-alone tool for encryption of email, file and disk. It has a very good feature call SDA (Self Decryption Archive), where you can encrypt the file with SDA pass phrase, you have to inform the recipient the pass phrase to open the file. (Similar as password protected zip file).
  • email Encryption:
This is the case wherein PGP will work as a plug-ins for supported email clients, where in you can encrypt entire email including attachment and body. Here both the ends you have to maintain the key ring. Key ring is an area on local PGP machine where you can store multiple publice keys. Using public key from the sender’s key ring, the emails are encrypted and the reciever can decrypt the same email by using his private from the local key rings.
  • File Encryption:
    1. Encryption with public key:
    2. Encryption with SDA (Self Decrypt Archive): Here you need to communicate the passphrass of the SDA file to the other end (receiver).

  • Disk Encryption:
Here you can dedicate an area onto your hard disk say 100 MB and decrypt it, now you can store/ copy your important/ critical data/ information onto it. The moment you encrypt this area, it will not be visible.
NOTE: File Encryption with SDA (Self Decryption Archive). Here you need to communicate the passphrass of the SDA file to the other end (receiver).
PGP Administration
Using this component you can configure predefined customized installable package and the same can be managed via Key Server after deployment. Basically policy enforcement (lock down the option) for the PGP Desktop.
PGP Key Server:

This is the place where you or your organization can share their public keys. It also enforces the policy defined at the PGP Administration

2. PGP Universal

This is the new product and it used at the gateways. Its like SMTP relay server. The PGP Universal server does the encryption and manages the public and private key internally. This product works in 2 modes:
  1. The mail will store on the PGP server: In this case the PGP Universal server will send a link to the recepient which points to the PGP Universal server where the recepient can see his mail after authentication.

  2. The mail can be downloaded at user end locally: In this senario a PGP agent (Settelite Client) has to be installed at the recepient end, then he will able to download the email to his local machines.
NOTE: THE COMMUNICATION BETWEEN RECEPEITN AND PGP UNIVERSAL SERVER IS ENCRYPTED
